Weather: I haven't opened the curtains yet, but the weather report says cool this morning getting up above 70 during the day. Definitely not starting a fire today.

Made a list of job counselors/advisors to talk to. Sorted my electronic files by size, and that's pretty intimidating. Checking lifehacker for some tips on getting email inboxes under control.

Goals today: finish catalog file, research career counselors, write some fiction. Continue taming the Nether in Minecraft.

Ten minutes digging up the last of the carrots and parsnips from last season - lost a few to frost and possibly squirrels (rabbits? deer?) but it should make a nice meal.

To do:
* Ask mom to contact the tree people about the hemlocks. (Done.)
* We've got our burn permit for the day, so we're burning brush.
* Clean carrots/parsnips.
* Fertilizing: first step is inventorying our misc fertilizers and mulches from last year.
* Pruning: roses and apple trees definitely need it, but this can wait until after fertilizing.
* Mom's inventorying seeds, so that's not on my desk.

Overall goal of the year: improve soil and permanent features (trees/shrubs/beds), but no complex planting or beds that will require a lot of weeding.

I'm reading A Northeast Gardener's Year by Lee Reich, and my mom's always sharing posts from A Way To Garden and Doug Green.

A few highlights from the March chapter:
* Year-old seed packets: why would you do that to yourself.
* Crop rotation! In theory.
