Really cute cows, man
Mar. 8th, 2016 02:42 pmWeather: 63 degrees and clear skies. We've been leaving the doors open to listen to the birds.
On to the journal. I've decided to start fresh on a new site (hello, Dreamwidth) because my LJ archives were weighing me down mentally, somehow, and I hear DW is nice. It should be noted that my shift key is driving me completely crazy, and I am going to get my new computer working today. Tonight. Probably, I have said this before.
This is the big intro entry, so let's start with the big picture. I'm Wyste, a 27 year old girl who lives in MA and works in nonfiction publishing for her mom in a small family business. I have one brother, T., who works in the finance department in a hospital in Beijing. He has a Russian girlfriend, N., who I am going to meet this summer at my semi-step-sister E-the-teacher's wedding, to her fiancé, also E, with her sister, E also, and her other sister S. whose name thankfully does not begin with E. Got that?
I didn't think so.
I have three sets of parents/relations - no, four. Biological mom (mum), biological dad (A.), stepdad (dad), and mom's current boyfriend (S.) I am variously in touch with all four sets, but not particularly close to anyone but my mother and my brother. I have two younger half-siblings on my dad's side that I've never met. More on this as it probably never develops.
I went to university in Vermont, and have today decided to see a career counselor to get my behind in gear about moving from publishing to the industry I've always wanted to be in, which is environmental activism/science/whatever. Ambitions include being a sci-fi author, owning a tree farm, and two kids.
Things I will probably talk about here: writing, politics (I lean liberal Democrat in the US, politically unaffiliated in the UK). Religion - I'm pagan but currently non-practicing due to poor time management. I like to post photos from walks and do nature writing, and I like freewriting fiction doodles.
Goals for the month: one short story, one Tapestry entry, at least 20 minutes editing CX, prep for my England trip in April, reconnect with my long-distance friends and try to get out in-person to try to practice socializing here. Finish the catalog at work, and the website switch. Talk to a career counselor. Do my taxes, and touch base with the accountant about the business taxes.
Major hobbies right now include playing Minecraft (catching cats is exactly as frustrating as catching cats should be), reading about the election season, and cooking.
