Finally getting over that cold
Sep. 16th, 2017 09:35 amI had a good talk with my brother about swimming this morning, including his plans for a Golden Week exercise extravaganza. He sounds like himself, and it's wonderful.
I'm continuing the trend of waking up at 4 or 4:30 in the morning, which is not as fun as it sounds, and I don't think it sounds fun for most of you. I've had tea, breakfast, sorted my bookshelves (3 boxes to give away, 2 boxes to the attic), and made myself a rewarding drink of iced elderflower cordial. I could have lived without waking from a nightmare of being kidnapped by people with a grudge against mom's boyfriend who I then talked into mass suicide in order to avoid getting shot. (With arrows, because my brain is archaic that way.)
I plowed through a month's backlog of AO3 messages yesterday, which is good. The weather is that unpredictable late summer pattern of warm days, cold nights, and intermittent rain, usually in the evenings. It's very temperate, but I do regret missing most of summer here while I was in China.
Also, the deer are winning the fight for the yard. They're just winning. It's sad.
I may be over that cold, or getting there. No sniffles this morning, and I can mostly breathe through my nose. Started a RP setting with Lyn set in early industrial revolution magic city, which reminds me of a book I read in fifth grade English about a girl who found work in a mill. (I've forgotten how the book ends, and it's bothering me a little.)
On tap for today: write at least 600 words, nap, RP hopefully, a nature walk, sort my wardrobe for donations/discards, make a clothes shopping list. Today or tomorrow mom and I are going to swing around the local second hand stores, which are universally fantastic because rich people don't wear clothes, they just buy them and donate them to these second hand stores. Wyste has two Armani jackets because no one wears clothes. >.>
This week the matching trousers to one of those jackets got run through the dryer, which is Not Great, but on a scale of problems, it isn't one.
Career stuff... made a list of possible career choices/Things I Might Enjoy Doing but need more ideas. (Stuff like teaching, managing, editing, researching, designing. Verbs.) More on this later.
Health - broke my glasses, have an eye appointment Monday. Mostly over the jet lag, hopefully over the cold, but my sleeping's been somewhat disrupted - or possibly it was disrupted before and now it's normal for the first time in years. The blue light filters on my computer and phone are entirely creepy in their effectiveness. My neck and shoulders are still bothering me a bit, but I swam four days in a row this week and it's working-and-unlocking, not doing horrible things to it through inactivity. Need to schedule a variety of doctor appointments.
Writing - obviously I'm trying to journal more. I've also dusted off my spreadsheet, put some work in on Language of Serpents (the latest in my series of Harry Potter fanfic), and am brainstorming both Colony X and Tapestry idly. I'd like to be working on a short story, but I... need to find a submission prompt that interests me, I think? Something like that romance-with-zombie-apocalypse one, that was fun and published.
