Autumn leaves, weekend home alone
Oct. 15th, 2017 02:05 pmI had lunch with dad yesterday, in the town an hour south of me and half an hour north of him. We discussed his efforts to get the town government to schedule a town meeting to vote on recommending to the state representatives that they impeach President Trump.
I've been thinking about the world seeming like it's on fire, and how the media is making money on this feeling. I've also been rereading this John Scalzi essay: 2017, Word Counts and Writing Process
I've been thinking about censorship and self-censorship after reading this article: Why Are Millennials Wary of Freedom? The internet trains one in strange ways, and those habits carry over offline.
I've been thinking about the crying wolf problem, otherwise known as 'but you call everyone a racist,' with the rebuttal 'but this one is actually a racist' and the ongoing liberal vs conservative argument.
I've been thinking about a lot of different things, mostly politics, and I feel like I should be turning them into blog posts, but all my thoughts feel half-finished - pointing out a problem without proposing a solution, raising awareness without also raising hope or aspiration or critical thought. i could talk about how climate change interacted with the Easter Island problem to create the Syrian civil war, but people who care already know and people who don't care don't care.
I want more partners for play arguments and political debates. And RP. There's a fine line between peaceful contemplation of life and being incredibly bored.
